A cryptocurrency is a digital asset based on blockchain technology where "coins" are stored in a ledger protected by cryptography to enhance security. Unlike stocks, bonds and most other investment vehicles, crypto is not issued in paper form or by a central authority. Bitcoin was the first form of decentralized cryptocurrency.
Precious metals are rare metals with notable value, including gold, platinum, palladium and silver. They are often traded and used to diversify an investment portfolio. Investors can purchase precious metals through stocks, mutual funds and EFTs.
